Recruiting Preschools with Autism and Peer Buddies 


Peer Interventions for Preschoolers with Autism Project 

This study is a good match if your child: 

  • Is 3-6 years with autism or related characteristics 

  • Speaks less than 20 words 

  • Attends a preschool with peers 

Your child would: 

  • Receive a developmental assessment 

  • Participate in a 30 minute social communication intervention with an iPad and peer buddies twice a week 

  • Play with peers and learn social skills 

Caregivers would: 

  • complete an interview on your child’s behaviors 

  • receive a report of assessment results & progress 

  • receive compensation 

A school team member would 

  • help recruit peer buddies 

  • complete a questionnaire 

  • learn strategies to increase children’s social communication 

  • receive compensation 

Peer Buddies: 

  • your preschool age child is a buddy for 30 minutes twice a week, taking turns with other buddies 

  • learn positive and responsive social skills 

  • be a role model for children 

  • receive a certificate for participating 

  • families will receive compensation 

Participation is dependent on school or program administration approval
